The second shop was two doors down at 354A and was named “K'road Video.” This adult store had a Black and Metal look. The front area was a small hallway covered with adult videos, DVDs and a small selection of sex toys. There was a little barred window with a “ring for service” sign. After a couple of rings a man in his late thirties, came over with a smile. “Steve” seemed a little confused about who I was and what I was doing and I found it hard to understand all of his kiwi sex lingo, but I made him explain the terms to me even though he seemed amused at how hard it was for me to grasp what he was saying. He explained that the shop had sex video booths, two connecting booths with a glory hole, and upstairs was a large room for more than one people. He laughed again when I asked him to spell out if people have sex in these rooms and said yes. “People may come here and go upstairs if they have a ‘guest’”. Steve of Auckland's K'road video also told me that they sell sex enhancing vitamins.
Though the store did have glory holes, I did get the sense that this was geared towards heterosexuals. K'road's Steve did say that he has gay visitors and I would not be surprised. The reason being is that Auckland and especially Karangahape Road (known as K’ Road) seem to be very open and relaxed to the topic of sex and sexuality. |
